Alicat Scientific is seeking a CNC Lathe Operator for its Machine Shop in Tucson, Arizona. The CNC Lathe Operator will set up, operate, and monitor computer-controlled lathes to machine precision parts according to blueprints and engineering specifications.
Core responsibilities include loading raw materials, loading programs, setting tools and tool touch-offs, changing jaws or collets, running production cycles, and operating CNC lathes for turning, boring, threading, and facing operations.
The role includes inspecting finished parts using precision measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, and an optical comparator. The operator will monitor machine output and adjust tool offsets, speeds, and feeds to compensate for tool wear or out-of-tolerance conditions.
Additional responsibilities include routine machine maintenance, lubrication and coolant checks, maintaining a clean work area, following required PPE and safety procedures, and working effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Candidates should have a high school diploma or GED; technical training or an apprenticeship is preferred. Ideally, candidates will have 1-3+ years of manufacturing experience, specifically with CNC turning equipment. Candidates should be able to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and CAD designs, understand basic G-code/M-code and tool offsets, and demonstrate proficiency in basic mathematics.
Strong attention to detail, mechanical aptitude, troubleshooting ability, and the ability to work in a noisy manufacturing environment are required.
